A parametric open source hardware geological simulator

A geological simulator is a mechatronic system, which means that it consists of a mechanical and an electronic part.

  • Mechanical part: Constitutes the structure of the modeling table.
  • Electronic part: This part is made up of all those components that allow the control of the modeling table.

Printing guidance

All 3D printed parts are printed with PLA using a layer height of 0.15 or 0.2 and a 60% infill. It will be necessary to print all with adhesion and without support.

3D Printed Part Layer Height Infill
Y-Axis Holder 0.15 mm 60%
Nema Motor Holder 0.2 mm 60%
Screw Nut Holder 0.2 mm 60%
Bearing Holder (top) 0.15 mm 60%
Bearing Holder (bottom) 0.15 mm 60%
Limit Switch Holder 0.2 mm 60%
Bottom Coverplate 0.15 mm 60%

Software

The simulator is controlled by Arduino software. Python and FreeCAD software were used to design the 3D printed parts.
