Auto-Linker

Automatically creates links from URLs and/or email addresses contained within the given text.

Requirements

  • ExpressionEngine 3+
  • PHP 5.4+

Installation

  1. Download the latest release.
  2. Copy the auto_linker folder to your system/user/addons folder (you can ignore the rest of this repository's files).
  3. In your ExpressionEngine control panel, visit the Add-On Manager and click Install next to "Auto Linker".

Usage

{exp:auto_linker}

Example Usage

Wrap the text to be formatted within the plugin tags, like so:

{exp:auto_linker}

    text you want processed

{/exp:auto_linker}

or...

{exp:auto_linker}

    {custom_field}

{/exp:auto_linker}

Note: Mailto links created for email addresses use an obfuscated version of the mailto tag containing ordinal numbers written with JavaScript to help prevent the email address from being harvested by spam bots.

Parameters

  • target - (blank) Links will open in a new window.
  • convert - (url/email) Set to "url" to only convert URLs. Set to "email" to only convert email addresses.

Additional Files

You may be wondering what the rest of the files in this package are for. They are solely for development, so if you are forking the GitHub repo, they can be helpful. If you are just using the add-on in your ExpressionEngine installation, you can ignore all of these files.

  • .editorconfig: EditorConfig helps developers maintain consistent coding styles across files and text editors.
  • .gitignore: .gitignore lets you specify files in your working environment that you do not want under source control.
  • .travis.yml: A Travis CI configuration file for continuous integration (automated testing, releases, etc.).
  • .composer.json: A Composer project setup file that manages development dependencies.
  • .composer.lock: A list of dependency versions that Composer has locked to this project.
