Fortunately, that user was able to get a working setup by downgrading to JPype 1.4.1. But of course downgrading is a problem long-term. Sooner or later, we will need to pay this technical debt and figure out how to improve JPype to work again on affected systems. For now though, I don't have an affected system on which to test. If/when that changes, I will attempt to troubleshoot it myself, although it sounds difficult.
We have at least one report of JPype 1.5.2 not working on a Windows 10 system—just crashing out when attempting to initialize the JVM.
