Minimize to tray?

Would it be feasible to add a minimize-to-tray feature to profanity so that it may stay running in the background without an open window, and may be re-opened by clicking on the tray icon? I understand this would probably be more difficult to achieve with a console application than a graphical one, though tmux does something pretty similar with its attach command so it's definitely possible.

Profanity is a cli program. It doesn't have a GUI, just a TUI.
So this is not something we have control over. It's a thing for your terminal emulator.

But what you probably want to do is running Profanity inside scree/tmux. Then you can let it run while closing your terminal window.

Ya I know, this would definitely require a setting for what command would be run when the tray icon was clicked, eg, xterm -c profanity --attach or something.

What I'm really after is a way to run profanity in the background and to launch it by clicking on the tray icon. I guess you're right, this could be achieved by running profanity in a tmux session and by either writing a plugin or tweaking tray.c with a mouse click handler to open an xterm that attaches profanity's tmux session.

In case you are running a configurable window manager you could also decide on a hotkey/key combination which will then start a terminal and attaches the tmux session. So you see the trayicon change, then hit your hotkey and your wm/desktop launches a fresh terminal and attaches.
