Reviving the project #85
Comments
"do it yourself" I agree that the project is very useful and dear to my heart but this is the good and bad of open source - it is mostly free labour by hobbyists. you don't "invite new contributors" if there are none, and if the maintainers have abandoned the project you can just fork it. The sad truth, however, seems to be that the people capable of working on this project, have focused their interests somewhere else. I do recommend checking matrix2051 as an alternative |
For all intents and purposes it works. I think the only real issue is that the verification process is still broken. My soul for someone to pick up the baton with this. Wish I was a CS major instead. :) |
Weird, tried to get the plugin working but it doesn't show up in plugins inside of weechat, will give it another shot later today. PS: not a CS major either, just happened to be frustrated with Matrix to the point that I decided to actively contribute to the ecosysten :-D |
Sadly this defeats the convenience of just having to install a plugin. Thanks for the suggestion though! |
With #86 merged, I'd consider this resolved (tested with Weechat 4.4.2) There are still scenarios where it may not be usable (condolences if you joined |
It's really sad to see this project meet its end with several open issues that haven't been updated for years now.
I've been an early adopter of
weechat-matrix
and it provided a gateway for me to explore the Matrix protocol and eventually migrate all my communications to it. The reason it appealed to me back then was because it seamlessly integrated withweechat
, without the user having to install yet another messaging client on their desktop.I strongly believe that this project should invite new contributors and try to keep up-to-date with new Matrix releases in the hopes that we attract more developers to step over to our ecosystem. Thanks in advance!
