“Twitter” or "X"’ or ”X (formerly Twitter)” #50841
Comments
Given all the recent events, I'd like to say that I also see the option of removing all Twitter/X references and features entirely. This is my private opinion and I understand that this might not be a good idea for the product, however I want to present it as another option since it also gets rid of this naming problem. |
“X (formerly Twitter)” seems like a good alternative. It would also make the filtering easier if some crazy person decides it should suddenly be named by one of his other kids. Maybe not in the near future, as it seems like he has a lot to do right now in the US government 😉 |
At least an option to disable selected socials, like Twitter/X, is missing. The recent events are reason enough to disable it. I'd argue it would even be a good idea for the product, as there are customers who don't want to be associated with it |
This issue is purely about the name and its occurrence in the strings on Transifex. |
It looks like ~50% of these references are from the High profile spots like Personal Settings settled on using I do like the idea of making its presence optional, but, yeah, then it's outside the scope of this Issue. |
The platform has changed ownership and more importantly the name.
Currently we have 57 occurrences with the word “Twitter” as content on Transifex.

There are also a few occurrences with “X”, 5 to be precise. This is not easy to filter because of the great name ;-)
My question is, how do we deal with this?
Should we change “Twitter” in the strings to “X”? Or to “X (formerly Twitter)” (I vote for that).
Or do we not care and leave “Twitter”? (I don't know right now if the platform is still being used by Nextcloud)
The question came up on Transifex and I've also been contacted on Mastodon.
@gerbrent @jospoortvliet @jancborchardt @karlitschek ... any opinion ...
