Sometimes Fancy Zones not working at all #16683

Running as admin

Steps to reproduce

Sometimes after long sessions on my pc (like 8hours )

✔️ Expected Behavior

Fancy zones should work alaways if activated LOL

❌ Actual Behavior

Sometimes just out of nowhere fancy zones doesn't work anymore, then i have to start the power toys settings and disable and reenable then it works again.
i don't know how to explain more ut does just happen sometimes out of nowhere.

Hi there!

We need a bit more information to really debug this issue. Can you add a "Report Bug" zip file here? You right click on our system tray icon and just go to report bug. Then drag the zipfile from your desktop onto the GitHub comment box in this issue. Thanks!

I don't even have this icon there lol but start on windows is on and admin mode also

Yes PowerToys does work fancy zones right now too but there is no icon in tray

Please do me a favor, if it happens again. Right after you open settings and restart FancyZones (you open settings by clicking on the tray icon, right?), create a bug report and upload it here. This step is essential for further investigation.
And it would be nice to check first if the PowerToys and FancyZones are working in Task Manager. Just to be sure that both processes are still working.

But i still don't have a tray icon lol

Can you try to run %ProgramFiles%\PowerToys\Tools\BugReportTool.exe in the terminal and see if there is any file generated and any message on the terminal?

Sometimes I think it may be because I work with many tabs in chrome.. but I don't believe it could be the cause, it could be some process running in parallel from other software, but I couldn't identify if it could be in fact!

We have gone through numerous updates and the problem persists, but I will report the bug as soon as it happens, it took me a while to find the community here.

The problem happens when I'm dragging windows between monitors and at some point FancyZones crashes.

  • Create and attach here a bug report.
  • In task manager, go to the PowerToys.FancyZones process, right click and create dump file. You can send it to me directly by email to [email protected]

I send everything to this email, in addition to the log generated in the task manager, should I send the zip file generated in the program report in the hidden window bar?!

The bug happened to me just now, but I couldn't take a screenshot, my PC crashed and I had to log out and log in again... as soon as the bug happens again, I'll know how to proceed!

The bug happened again, I just reported it to the indicated email... I'm waiting for updates. Unfortunately I didn't get a screenshot, but I sent all possible bug reports.

I got a screenshot, when Fancyzones crashes the screen looks like this... having to close the program many times and start again to get back to normal. But counting the hours until it happens again!

Sorry for the delay in responding, I didn't see the notification in my email... I leave the window placement automatic, I'm always dragging windows between monitors. I noticed the bug happen a few times since then!

Recently, I had to move my computer and use only one monitor for a while, the bug didn't happen again... now I'm back with 3 monitors, if it happens again I'll report.!

Thx for the reply, for me it's rather less of a problem, as those problems barely ever occur anymore.

For me it's kinda hard, as those issues seem to appear random, but could also be caused like after updates the fancyzones process is not correctly started and needs to be restartet, which is currently my main guess.
