Description

After running the following command to install the linux-firmware package:

sudo pacman -S linux-firmware

I started experiencing screen flickering at the bottom of my display. This issue appeared after installing the firmware, which was needed for my TP-LINK USB WiFi adapter. Before installing the package, the screen worked perfectly without any flickering.

System Information:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4210U
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT820M
Kernel Version: 6.12.9-arch-1
Hyprland 0.46.2 built from branch at commit 0bd541f (version: bump to 0.46.2).

How to reproduce

  1. Install linux-firmware using sudo pacman -S linux-firmware.
  2. Reboot the system.
  3. Observe flickering at the bottom of the screen.

Attach hyprland, nvidia and monitor config please. Including env variables set.

I don't think I have nvidia settings since I didn't install nvidia driver either, but when I try to run nvidia-settings and nvidia-smi it says:

ERROR: Unable to find display on any available system

NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

here's the config files:

env.txt
monitorinfo.txt

Do you have the NVidia drivers for your system? Just to check :)

a few hours ago i have installed Nvidia legacy driver from AUR (because my graphics card is quite old) but when i try to run nvidia-smi command or something like that, the message above shows (NVIDA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the Nvidia driver, etc). even. before that i have uninstalled all drivers related to Nvidia hoping the flickering will disappear like when i first installed arch Linux and ran hyprland, but it still doesn't work 😢
