Providing AppStream metadata

AppStream is a cross-distro Linux standard specified at https://www.freedesktop.org/software/appstream/docs/chap-AppStream-About.html

Linux software stores (Gnome Software) use appstream *.metainfo.xml to provide information

Validation

Fedora recommends providing this metadata for GUI applications, and requires validation of the metainfo file if provided Fedora Packaging

Fields to fill out

There is a web helper tool at AppStream Metainfo Creator to create the metainfo file.

The fields that are already determined:

• Name: ghostty
• Homepage: https://ghostty.org/
• Unique Software Identifier (rDNS): com.mitchellh.ghostty
• Metadata License: MIT (if provided upstream)
• Software License: MIT
• Existing .desktop file: com.mitchellh.ghostty.desktop
