Most of the time a succinct notification that "something" happened is good enough. Sometimes I'm working on something that requires too much attention to hop around programs to see what happened.
A key binding that shows the full text of the notification would be really useful.
For example, while developing I'd like to read complete IRC responses without having to switch (virtual) desktops to my IRC client since a quick reply is less important than getting back to focusing on the work.

I'm going back through issues and just now remembered this one, not sure why I skipped replying, sorry!

I'm not sure I understand the behaviour you're describing exactly;

Are you referring to having an option to expand notifications that were ellipsized due to word_wrap = no and geometry constraints?

to read complete IRC responses without having to switch (virtual) desktops to my IRC client

Keep in mind many messaging applications truncate the message themselves before sending it as a notification which means in some circumstances this might not be possible.

This was a while back so I don't fully remember. But I think you get it. In this case I'm in control of what gets sent to dunst so that's not a problem.

I don't always want my screen flooded with walls of text so the truncation is usually preferred but I'd like to be able to toggle it somehow (with a keybinding of course, no mousing ; )) in case I spot a significant message I need to read but haven't yet decided is important enough to interrupt the task I'm working on.

I think I read another similar issue asking for a way to expand and minimize notifications.
And I think this is a cool feature
