Definition lists are supported by blackfriday2 but vmdfmt destroys them when it reformats a document.

Input:

Cat
: Fluffy animal everyone likes

Internet
: Vector of transmission for pictures of cats

$ pandoc test.md -t markdown
Cat
:   Fluffy animal everyone likes

Internet
:   Vector of transmission for pictures of cats

$ vmdfmt test.md
Cat : Fluffy animal everyone likes

Internet : Vector of transmission for pictures of cats
