Please clarify the system requirements to run this script. For instance which OS are supported? Less important how much disk space and memory are required. Thank you for your work to help us the community run BSD in GCE.

To be honest, I would suggest that from now on, you use the official FreeBSD images, which you will find here, under Community supported images > FreeBSD:
If you wish to use this toolset, I suggest you run it on FreeBSD. I don't think the architecture will matter.
Also, from the README, here is the info on storage space:
Note that you are not required to have the specified image size available as free space on your local hard drive. The truncate(1) command "does not cause space to be allocated" unless written to. This script only requires about 1GB to run.
If you use ZFS, the above no longer applies; you will need to have the storage available for your specificed image size.
