How is bedtools used to calculate average coverage depth?

I have been using quast just to get the average coverage depth but that is the only thing that I really need it for. In the manual it says that bedtools is used for coverage, but I can't seem to figure out how to get bedtools to spit out a coverage number with the just the contigs and trimmed reads I have been giving to quast.
