Are there any plans to remove plenary.nvim as a dependency.

Hi!
Thank you for this amazing git plugin. One thing I wanted to ask was are there any concrete plans on knocking of plenary.nvim as a hard dependency.

Well it is just that i taught it would be really good if neogit is not dependent on any plugin as hard dependency and work as a standalone plugin similar to vim-fugitive. Plenary provides a lot of functionality which i as a end user of plugins in my neovim config wont use at all and i am a minimalist guy. This was the reason behind that question.

I second the proposal. I love all the ideas that digging through the plenary source code gave me. But there are problems:
For plenary.async there are better alternatives like nvim-nio and coop.nvim see the comparison: https://github.com/gregorias/coop.nvim?tab=readme-ov-file#-comparison-to-similar-tools
I would say that to run async jobs without callbacks you only need the cb_to_co function from coop.nvim, you can just copy paste it into neogit and use it.
For plenary.path there are alternatives like pathlib.nvim, and also a quick scan through the source, neogit is not really using much of it to read and write stuff, so I don't see much use for it.
These are the two reasons I removed plenary from my plugins, I see that neogit mainly uses these two modules, so here it is. There are also like issues with plenary's huge scope, my feed reader plugin was using plenary.curl but later I find it to be a huge file that depends on weird parts of the library and has many issues and unmerged bug fixes, so I ended up writing my own curl wrapper and it was 100 lines.
I guess in my mind plenary is great for experimenting but can be a problem for long term robustness.

Entirely true - having an internal async library would pretty much eliminate the need for plenary, and I see that as a worthwhile goal.

That said, I'm on a bit of a break right now as I have twin newborns at home so... Don't wanna make any big changes I can't triage
