The CESM share code shr_file_mod.F90 should be replaced with the use of shr_log_mod.F90. Some functionality in shr_file_mod is obsolescent as a result of FORTRAN updates in the 2008 standard. There are other parts of shr_file_mod that just aren't needed anymore. So the functionality that is needed is all in shr_log_mod.F90 and that should be used. Once shr_file_mod is replaced with shr_log_mod across CESM shr_file_mod could be removed in the share code.

#34 did some work on this, but didn't complete it.
