      <p>
        Stormwater maintenance is a major issue in Virginia Beach and throughout the region. It's everyone's responsibility. City of Virginia Beach has <a href="http://gis-vbgov.opendata.arcgis.com/datasets/fb03e0bf92514a79b93119e13efe706c_16">the location of every stormwater drain in the city</a>. Virginia Beach also has one of the largest volunteer rosters of any city in the country. Let’s mobilize all of our residents to adopt and maintain an active responsibility for our stormwater system.
      </p>

        <li>Draft an operations plan for mobilizing residents, ex., before a storm</li>
        <li>Develop a communications and marketing campaign to get people to adopt drains</li>
        <li>Work with City of Virginia Beach to promote adoption to volunteers</li>

      <h3>Mesh the ViBE</h3>
      <p>
        The ViBE is Virginia Beach’s arts and creative industries district, a rebounding section near the Oceanfront at 17th St. The ViBE is also at the center of the Oceanfront and next door to one of the poorest, most transient sections of Virginia Beach. There's no reason every resident in this area should have a separate broadband connection to support connectivity for the many people who move through it. Can we help both businesses and low income residents by providing free and cheap access to wireless broadband for everyone?

      <p>
        City of Virginia Beach is drafting a 10 Year Strategic Plan to End Homelessness (<a href="https://www.vbgov.com/government/departments/housing-neighborhood-preservation/Documents/20170708-HNP-HS-StrategicPlan-ActionPlan-Draft.pdf">DRAFT</a>). City of Norfolk is also developing a long term strategic plan for affordable housing redevelopment. We’re looking for digital services professionals who want to help our cities deliver great digital services that support housing resources, especially digital services for the disconnected and for community engagement and public communications.
      </p>
      <p>
        This is a <em>discovery</em> session.

        There are important, recurring questions that can be answered via open data from our city data portals. For example:

        <li>Which neighborhoods have the worst access to parks? libraries? open spaces?</li>
      </ul>

        <li>Compare and contrast services around low income housing, the Housing Services Center, and existing homeless resources, the Lighthouse and JCOC</li>
        <li>Analyze See Click Fix reports for “Stormdrain Maintenance” to see where residents are reporting issue and what we might learn from it.</li>
        <li>Is it possible to determine reasonable likelihood of flooding at a location given weather predictions?</li>

        <li>Draft “How to Safely Check and Clear Your Drains” for Adopt-a-Drain web app</li>
