On macOS, Mac Mini M1 has a setting that allows it to automatically power on after a power loss. This is crucial for users running servers, Home Assistant, or other automation setups that need the system to restart without manual intervention.
Currently, Asahi Linux does not seem to support this feature. Adding support for automatic power-on after power loss would make Asahi Linux more viable for server use cases.
Use Case
Users running Asahi Linux as a server or home automation system (e.g., Home Assistant).
Ensures unattended recovery after a power outage, avoiding downtime.
Useful for those running remote access systems, reducing the need for physical intervention.
Expected Behavior
A setting or firmware configuration that allows the Mac Mini to automatically boot after power is restored.
Ideally, a way to toggle this setting via software (similar to how it's done in macOS).
Additional Notes
On Intel Macs, this feature could be configured via nvram settings (nvram AutoBoot=%02).
On Apple Silicon, the equivalent macOS setting is available in System Settings → Power Options.
The Asahi team may need to investigate if this is configurable via firmware or a kernel-level change.

Per this post this should be controllable via /sys/bus/platform/devices/macsmc-reboot/ac_power_mode. Leaving the ticket open as we should actually document this.
